Carlo Bastasin is a Senior Fellow, currently non-resident, at Brookings Institution (Washington) – the most important think tank in the world – in the Foreign Policy Department. He is Professor of Practice at LUISS University and Resident Senior Fellow at the Institute for European Analysis and Policy of LUISS University (Rome). For the same institute, he is serving as professor of European Economic Governance. He is also a regular commentator for Italian television RAI and an editorialist for the Italian daily “La Repubblica”.
He has been associated as Senior Fellow with Brookings since 2011, formerly, he worked as an economist for the Peterson Institute for International Economics (Washington).
After graduating in International Monetary Theory at Università Bocconi (Milano) and a post-lauream specialization, he had a long experience in journalism. He served as German correspondent for “Il Sole-24 Ore” and then as deputy editor-in-chief for “La Stampa”. His latest book is “Saving Europe – Anatomy of a Dream” – Brookings Institution Press (Washington) 2015, whose first edition was indicated among the best books published that year in the United States. Recently, he co-authored with Gianni Toniolo “The Rise and Fall of the Italian Economy) for Cambridge University. His latest Italian book is “Viaggio al termine dell’Occidente” (2020).
