Ferdinando De Giorgi is the outgoing coach of the A1 series volleyball team of Lube Banca Marche Macerata with which, in the first year, he dominated and won the Scudetto in 2006. Born in Squinzano (Lecce) on 10 October 1961, he entered the world of Serie A volleyball in Julio Velasco’s legendary Panini di Modena in 1986 and immediately won the championship. The following year, after moving to the Montichiari team, he made his debut in the blue jersey at the age of 26 with a path that, given his stature (he is “only” 1.78 meters tall), is one of the acquired merits on the field. In his palmares there are: 3 World Cups, a Confederal Cup, a Cup Winners’ Cup, a European Super Cup, an Italian Cup and an Italian Super Cup. In the 2000/01 season he took up the post of coaching player in Cuneo, which he honors with the first place in the regular season and the victory of the Italian Cup and the Cev Cup (the Uefa Volleyball Cup).
As many as 309 appearances in the national team, 3 world championships, 1 European championship and 3 World League. After the experience in Cuneo, in the 2004/2005 season Ferdinando De Giorgi reached the historic result of the championship final against Sisley from Treviso with RPA Perugia, proposing himself as one of the most popular coaches in the strongest league in the world. At the helm of Lube Macerata from 2006 to 2009, in addition to the historic championship, he won 2 Italian Super Cups (2006 and 2008), 1 CEV cup (2006) and 2 Italian Cups (2008 and 2009).
After various experiences in Italy, Russia and Poland in January 2018 he was hired by the Polish team of Jastrzębski Węgiel, which he leads for the second half of the 2017-18 season and for the first months
of the following one, when he asks for and obtains the termination of the contract in order to be able to bind again to Lube, in the Italian top league, where he arrives in December 2018. With the Marche team, in 2019 he won the Italian Championship, the Champions League and the club world. He remains on the Lube bench until the exemption in February 2021.
In June 2021 his appointment as coach of the Italian men’s national team for the three-year Olympic period up to Paris 2024 was made official, taking over from Gianlorenzo Blengini once the tournament is over.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Called to manage a profound generational change, already in September of the same year he brought Italy back to win the European championship, sixteen years after the previous success, while the following year it was the turn of the world championship, the fourth of the blue history – and of De Giorgi himself, the first as a coach after the three as a player – twenty-four years after the previous one.
In addition to his activity as a coach, he is also a writer and teacher. He is the author of two books, one written jointly with professor Giuliano Bergamaschi, “Pensieri per allenare e motivare una squadra”, in collaboration with the school of Palo Alto, and “Vademecum del palleggiatore”, in collaboration with the journalist Lorenzo Dallari He also edited the preface of the teaching of coaching in sports science by the teachers Giuliano Bergamaschi and Donato Sarcinella. Since 2019 he has held the course of “Technical and didactic theory of team sports” in the course of studies in the sciences of motor and sports activities at the University of Foggia.

In recent years he has been regularly involved with Rai as a technical commentator on the occasion of the Olympic events of the National team and in the international competitions of the Italian volleyball teams. Having occupied different roles (player, player-coach and finally coach) Ferdinando De Giorgi was called upon to effectively manage “delicate and subtle balances” with all the members of his team (players, technical staff and club).
Precisely because of his skills and technical experience, associated with natural communication and relational skills, De Giorgi has decided to collaborate also with Promostudio as not only a sports testimonial, but as an authentic trainer on the field, helping to carry out training interventions with a high impact. in terms of content as well as in terms of passion and involvement of the participants.
